Getting Creative While Supporting Local Small Businesses
One of my favorite ways to #BuyInJackson & support local businesses is to eat local.
And while that looks a lot different this year than did a year ago at this time, it’s still completely possible (and quite delicious). In fact, I looked down at the breakfast sitting in front of me last weekend and was tickled to recognize how my “homecooked” meal was in fact supporting three different local small businesses:
- everything bagels and pecan glazed cinnamon rolls from DoughNation Bakery
- freshly-roasted coffee from Fortress Coffee
- water (used to brew said coffee) from The Water Store
While our support of the local small business in Jackson County might look different than a year ago, it has never been more important.
Restaurants are still struggling to keep their doors open, shopping in-person at local stores has been passed over to shopping online at major retailers, independently-owned service providers are being overlooked as people flock to the larger conglomerates and national chains.
These local businesses are owned and operated by our neighbors. They are the ones who support community events, our kids’ sports teams, and provide jobs for individuals with whom we do life on a daily basis.
Let’s keep finding creative ways to support our local Jackson County small businesses… whether that means picking up dinner from the local cafe on our way home, scheduling a safe appointment at the locally owned physical therapy clinic when your doctor recommends rehab, booking a class at the local fitness center, sending flowers to a friend from a local florist, or sharing a cup of locally-roasted coffee with a friend across the kitchen table.
What creative ideas do you have for supporting local small businesses in Jackson? We’d love to hear them and share them with others – just comment below or email us and you might see them in an upcoming email or blog post.
